“Mario, at age 15 couldn’t get enough of the kayakers who came from around the world to train for slalom kayaking in Turrialba. When I met him he was already able to do the eskimo roll and wanted to run the rivers with me after slalom training.
During my first run down the class 4-5 river with Mario it was clear that he was going to be a great kayaker. We trained together everyday for 30+ days at a time and I watched him become one of the best kayakers in the world. Mario created his own moves and style and was always a joy to watch and paddle with.
Mario is one of the few people I still get to kayak with that we started paddling together in the 90s’.
I wish I could paddle with him everyday as he is a joy to be around. He is one of the most hard working, honest, and friendly people on our planet earth.

Not only is Mario's logistical knowledge of his home land extraordinary, but his paddling skills will inspire any paddler even at the highest level of ability.

From picking me up at 2:00 AM at the airport to taking us to the local eateries that you simply would NEVER find on your own or on a standard tour. I don't think there's another outfit in Costa Rica that has Mario's selection of gear and boats. I never felt like I was on a tour...it was like being with friends paddling on warm rivers in tropical paradise.

Mario's patience and fun-loving attitude is what lured our group to using his services. We contacted him for help in setting up a raft trip down the Pacuare, we ended up staying for a week and learning how to kayak -- on rivers, lakes and even in the surf out at the beach (that was unreal!). We usually never join tours and most vacations we rent our own car, but this time we simply entrusted almost all arrangements to his company, based on a recommendation -- it was worth the money and then some.

I had been kayaking to Costa Rica before, just on my own without guides. That was a lot of fun, but I also lost a lot of time figuring things out. I met Mario that first time and decided to trust him for a second visit and let him handle the logistics and it was soooo worth it!! I saw a side of Costa Rica I hadn't even discovered on my first visit...

Mario is an excellent guide and instructor, not only on the water, but also in learning the Costa Rican culture. He really helped improve my kayaking technique by focusing on all the basic building blocks of paddling. I can't recommend him highly enough if you're looking to escape the cold this winter and go some place beautiful to improve your paddling skills.
